Job Description

Our Immigration  practice helps multinational corporations and non-profit organizations navigate the complex regulatory landscape of moving talent across borders. We provide end-to-end support—from strategic advisory on Kenyan immigration laws to the practical acquisition of permits—ensuring our clients remain compliant while deploying their best people where they are needed most.
We are seeking a meticulous and proactive Immigration Intern to join our Nairobi team. This role is ideal for a recent graduate with a legal or administrative background who wants to understand the intricacies of Kenyan Citizenship and Immigration laws, expatriate management, and government relations. You will work directly with our consultants to support high-profile corporate clients.

Key Responsibilities

1. Application Preparation & Management

  • Assist in drafting and compiling dossiers for various immigration applications, including Class D Work Permits, Special Passes, Dependent Passes, and Alien Cards.
  • Review client documents (academic certificates, police clearances, CVs) to ensure they meet the strict standards required by the Directorate of Immigration Services.
  • Draft cover letters and support letters for applications, ensuring legal accuracy and professional tone.
  • Assist with online submissions via the eFNS (Electronic Foreign Nationals Services) and e-Citizen portals.

2. Regulatory Compliance & Tracking

  • Maintain the firm’s "Immigration Tracker," ensuring that all client expiry dates (passports, visas, permits) are monitored and renewal notifications are sent 90 days in advance.
  • Conduct file audits to ensure all client physical and digital files are audit-ready and compliant with data privacy standards.
  • Assist in tracking the status of applications currently under review by the government and providing weekly status reports to consultants.

3. Research & Advisory Support

  • Research emerging trends and changes in Kenyan immigration policy (e.g., the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), changes to visa fees, or East African Community (EAC) protocol updates).
  • Draft internal memos summarizing new immigration regulations for the consulting team.
  • Assist in preparing advisory decks for client training sessions on immigration compliance.

Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Public Administration, International Relations, or Human Resources.
  • Legal Awareness: A basic understanding of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act, 2011 is a distinct advantage.
  • Attention to Detail: Immigration work requires zero error. You must be the type of person who spots a typo in a passport number immediately.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to handle multiple client files simultaneously without losing track of deadlines.
  • Tech Savviness: Comfortable navigating government online portals (e-Citizen) and proficient in Excel for tracking purposes.
  • Discretion: High level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive personal data (passports, salaries, family details) with confidentiality.
