Job Description

Our Client one of Kenya’s fastest-growing non-bank lenders, offering secured credit solutions to individuals and MSMEs. We are seeking a driven, commercially astute Senior Business Development Officer to support the growth of our secured lending portfolio. This role is specifically responsible for driving growth in logbook finance and other asset-backed lending products, while safeguarding portfolio quality and asset security. The position requires strong market presence, disciplined credit assessment, and close coordination with credit, legal, and collections teams. This role is ideal for a hands-on performer who combines strong sales capability with sound credit judgment and a passion for building quality loan books.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Development & Origination

i. Originate and grow a logbook and asset-based lending business through dealers, agents, referrals, and direct sourcing.
ii. Structure appropriate loan facilities based on asset value, client repayment capacity, and risk profile.
iii. Actively grow customer numbers while maintaining disciplined credit standards.

2. Credit & Asset Evaluation

i. Conduct detailed borrower assessments, including income analysis, cash-flow review, and affordability checks.
ii. Verify ownership, condition, and market value of motor vehicles and other movable assets offered as collateral.
iii. Work closely with the Credit Perfection Team to ensure proper valuation, registration, and perfection of securities.

3. Portfolio Quality & Risk Management

i. Ensure compliance with all KYC, AML, credit, and collateral-management policies.
ii. Maintain a high-quality portfolio by monitoring repayments, flagging early warning signs, and supporting collections.
iii. Ensure all loan documentation and asset custody controls are accurate and up to date.

4. Customer & Relationship Management

i. Build strong, long-term client relationships anchored on transparency and service excellence.
ii. Drive repeat business and referrals through effective post-disbursement engagement.

5. Reporting & Performance Management

i. Submit accurate and timely sales, disbursement, portfolio, and asset-tracking reports.
ii. Track performance against targets and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
iii. Support, grow, and mentor junior BD Executives to deliver consistent performance.

Requirements

  • · Bachelor’s degree (Business-related field preferred).
  • · At least 4 years’ experience in logbook finance, asset-based lending, microfinance, or banking.
  • · Strong understanding of collateralized lending and portfolio management.
  • · Strong understanding of credit risk, collateral evaluation, and customer lifecycle management.
  • · Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • · Results-driven, persuasive, and highly self-motivated.
  • · High integrity, strong ethics, and commitment to responsible lending
